Vault 17 Quests
Live on the server · 0.3.1426
These changes are available on the live server.
Six personal quests add to life in Vault 17.
- “A Simple Job” and “The Decoy Folder.” Henderson in Command asks you to recover Carter’s documents. A terminal points to a locker in the Workshop; you choose whom to trust with the find. The decoy folder has a recipient of its own, including for older copies.
- “Close Encounters.” Ethan in the first residential floor’s library asks you to look into Emily’s story. You can stop at a brief report or learn more about the blackmail and decide what happens to her private disk.
- “Criminal Reading: The Missing Book.” Ethan accepts Forty-two Minutes Underground in the library on the first residential level. Tracking down another library loan brings Diana, Walder, and Lavrentiev into the story; the chain ends with the books being returned.
- “Secrets Under the Beds.” Delia on the agricultural level asks you to inspect a find among the growing beds. You can report the cache to one of three people.
- “Candy Rebel.” Stone in Command offers a job to bug Stuart. You can install the device or pass it to someone else; your final report follows that choice.
Rewards are given once. The shared locker and cache remain available to other players; old spare folders and books can be sold, and disks can be returned to Emily.
Quests and contacts
Vault 17 combines medical, technical, and personal jobs. Talk to residents and check PDA quests: the next reply may require a completed job, an item, membership, or rank. A missing reply does not always mean an error; first check your current objective.
Residents of Vault 17 offer personal jobs that extend the medbay and workshop chains.
Medbay and workshops
Start with Doctor Walder. Stranger in the Ward opens further medbay and workshop jobs. Supply and crafting work can repeat after its cooldown; a personal story and its completion reward do not repeat every time you talk.
- Troubled Patient. Johnny Hopper wants to leave the medbay. You can help him or warn Walder; the choice changes the job’s course.
- Close Contact: Universal Tool. Collect the broken tool from Walder and discuss repairs with Dmitry Lavrentiev. You can use parts or a repair kit; return the working tool to the doctor.
- Close Contact: Medical Jumpsuits. After the tool repair, Walder asks you to return five KS-1M suits. The trail leads to Eddie in the barracks; talking to the guards and Emberly opens different ways to obtain the suits. Return to Walder with the full quantity.
- Long Request: Restore the Disk. Collect the damaged scout disk from Terry, discuss repairs with Lavrentiev, and return the result to Terry. Read the current objective before looking for a treat for the technician.
- Simple Task: Road to the Airlock. After the medical jumpsuits, Lavrentiev offers work restoring three workshop terminals. You can then agree to install three scanners or offer a bribe. The work branch requires installing the scanners and reporting back; a promise alone is insufficient.
Getting to the surface
After Road to the Airlock, follow the objective for Dreams Yet to Come and the exit through the extra airlock. On the current route, the ordinary exit completes the transition to the surface; you do not need to find a separate mandatory fight with a tunnel mutant. Check the PDA and world map for further jobs.
Residents’ personal jobs
Start with the listed contact. After accepting a quest, follow its objectives in the PDA.
| Quest | Who to talk to | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Ask the Expert | Sanders Kid | Technical Level |
| One Careless Move | Lars | Barracks |
| Sound Hands | Enzo Alves | Construction level |
| Useful Hands | Adrien | Detention block |
| Why There Must Be No Fire Here | Shainy | Entertainment Level |
| Gum Vandal | Piotr Radishev | Meeting Hall |
| The Missing Pistol Spring | Enrique | Barracks |
| A Conversation Without Orders | Doctor Ross | Medical and Social Level |
| The Power of Words | Ryan | First Residential Floor |
| Providence Blues | Kristian Edwards | Medical and Social Level |
| Caramel Rebel | Vendi | Entertainment Level |
| The Right to Work | Albert Sweetland | Agricultural Level |
| The Seventh Art | Caren Holl | Entertainment Level |
| Shining Clean | Serious Bobby | Detention block |
| When the Shots Fell Silent | Captain Sam West | Barracks |
| Show Time | Bruce Gaston | Barracks |
| Small Beds, Big Problems | Albert Sweetland | Agricultural Level |
| Towards the Sun | Billy | Construction level |
In Small Beds, Big Problems, after speaking with Delia, collect the allocated bottle of Distilled water from Greg and hand it to Delia through dialogue. This stage gives you one bottle; repeating the conversation does not replenish it. Then agree on the water-check schedule with Greg and report to Albert Sweetland.
For “Towards the Sun”, head to the submarine base east of Vault 17. Leave the vault through its usual exit, then enter the base from the global map. Follow the current objective in your PDA.
Personal stories are offered by residents of Vault 17 through ordinary dialogue. They include:
- Show Time, from Bruce Gaston: help Joe after an expedition by discussing voluntary care with Doctor Ross.
- One Careless Move, from Lars: investigate bullying and bring verified information to the commander. Retaliatory violence does not replace talking.
- Ask the Expert, from Sanders Kid: check a rumor about technical work with Lavrentiev and Doctor Ross.
- Shining Clean, from Serious Bobby: hear Larry’s riddle and return with an answer.
- Towards the Sun, from Billy: carry out a request concerning his comrade’s ashes on the surface.
Your own job determines the next step. Another player’s report does not replace yours, and turning in a completed personal story again does not award another reward.
Towards the Sun leads to the public Submarine base on the world map. The entrance is at the edge of the site, near the trail to the memorial stones. This is an ordinary location accessible from the world map; you do not need to repeat the introduction to visit it.
Membership and combat jobs
Jobs help improve standing, but do not replace membership and rank requirements. Diana Gurieva offers Secure the 17 Approach to eligible faction members: it awards 500 experience, 400 Coins, and a rank promotion. Check the offer’s conditions before going hunting.
If a quest stops progressing
Check the contact, stage, and item quantity in the PDA. Completing a previous job, making a report, and handing over an item are separate actions. Return to the named person; having an item in your inventory does not always complete the objective by itself. A marker helps you find the way, but does not remove cold, weight, or the need to return with the result.
