Managing Characters (Roster)

An account in Last Frontier isn’t a single hero you keep forever — it’s a small team of approaches: one character built for cautious scouting, another for combat, a third for crafting or trading. Managing this team is called the roster, and it works by strict rules.

Several characters on one account

A single account can hold up to five characters. At any given moment you control exactly one active hero — the one who steps out into the world. The others don’t disappear: they stay part of the account with their own state, waiting until you pick them.

The key principle: each character keeps their own history separately. Level, experience, trained skills, wounds, inventory, and the consequences of past outings all belong to that specific hero. Switching characters isn’t free healing or a way to erase mistakes: come back to a wounded fighter later and you’ll find them in exactly the state you left them.

Three actions: create, switch, delete

The roster is managed with three commands:

  • Create a character — adds a new hero to a free roster slot (while there are fewer than five) and immediately starts the intro scene for them, just like when you first launched the game.
  • Switch — makes the chosen hero active. You can’t switch to a character who is already active.
  • Delete — permanently removes a character from the roster. You can’t delete the active hero — switch to another one first.

The commands are available through your PDA (the notes section), which shows the list of your characters, their names, and which one is currently active.

Management is only possible in your personal room

All three actions are tied to your personal safe space: you can only create, switch, and delete heroes while in your own room, not out in the open world or in a dangerous zone. This is by design — the roster is meant to be a team of roles prepared in advance, not an instant fighter swap at any bad spot.

When you switch, the game loads the chosen hero and neatly places them on a free tile next to the previous character in the same room. No jumps across the map — the switch happens in safety.

The shared account storage

The account has one shared storage accessible to all your characters. This is the bridge over which rare materials, tools, and consumables pass from one hero to another: stash the loot with your scout, then pick it up with your fighter or crafter.

The storage doesn’t sit off somewhere as a separate remote vault out in the ruins. Access to it goes through the active character, like an ordinary container. When you enter the game, when you create a new hero, and on every switch, the storage is always available to whoever you’re controlling now, so your prepared supplies aren’t lost between sessions and role changes.

This is also where loot lost on death ends up — the shared storage — which means items dropped by one character can be recovered by another hero on the same account.

What happens when you enter the game

Entering isn’t just a model appearing on the map. Your character list is always up to date: when you enter, the game returns your active hero to you, and the shared storage is immediately available to any of your characters. If the account doesn’t have a single character yet, a new starter hero is automatically created with the intro scene.

Note: a full roster is available only to a registered player — in anonymous play, character management is locked.
