Danger Lurked at Every Step

10 December 2022

Today’s news is entirely devoted to the new enemies that were added to the updated alpha version over the past week.

Let’s start with the most dangerous and largest subspecies of mutant bear in the region — the Forest Keeper, a ferocious giant capable of single-handedly wiping out a small settlement of survivors.

Even though most inhabitants of the frozen wastelands have to deal daily with the assaults of raider gangs, the insolence of traders, and the cruelty of the neo-states’ armies, the last thing survivors want is to run into the Tearers.

Disfigured victims of the Australian smallpox raging across the region, regarded as carriers of the deadly infection, are doomed to wander the wastelands, slowly losing their minds.

Despite the conditions of nuclear winter, both in the cold of Chukotka and across the snowy expanses of Alaska, some species of mutant insects managed to survive in the relatively warm “oases,” among them the Flatbody beetle.

This small mutant, reaching 70 centimeters in length, is able to secrete antifreeze protein compounds that keep the fluids in the insect’s body cavities from freezing.

The Spitter Flatbody subspecies differs from the ordinary specimen in its ability to build up thick slime for spitting. On contact with poorly protected areas of the body, the slime itself inflicts a painful burn.

The Firefly Flatbody, possessing the ability of bioluminescence, can briefly emit a bright flash that disorients an enemy in a poorly lit space.

The Igniter Flatbody’s ability consists of secreting a special fluid that, when it lands on an opponent, increases the chances of catching fire from the slightest spark.

Thanks to the secretion of strong pheromones, the Summoner Flatbody is able to gather a numerous group of mutant insects around itself, dangerous for lone survivors.
