We present to your attention concept art of the clothing of the traditionalists of New Gambell — the dominant community in the city, which is gaining popularity even beyond St. Lawrence Island among the Yupik and Aleut peoples.

Having become disillusioned with the foundations of pre-war life that led the world to collapse, the traditionalists returned to the culture and beliefs of their ancestors. This was also reflected in their working gear: the abundance of patterns and decorations not only emphasized the owner’s status but, according to the teachings of the shamans and mystics, also served as protective charms.
