A Robot Made of Fragments

15 May 2023

The “Materials” section has been updated: we’ve added concept art of first-generation automated defense systems, of both American and Soviet manufacture.

First-generation defense systems were typically equipped with infrared scanners, motion sensors, and the most basic “Friend or Foe” recognition systems. The command unit also couldn’t boast much processing speed, which meant the turrets didn’t always react to an intruder correctly or in time.

Such machines were fitted with machine guns or small-caliber cannons, compensating for their weak killing power with a considerable degree of hull protection against various types of damage. This made this type of ADS low-maintenance and guaranteed long-term operation even in the most extreme environmental conditions.

Thirty years after the apocalypse, a significant portion of these devices continues to function, posing a serious threat to survivors who decide to explore abandoned military and government facilities.
